You've got two tabs open: Otterly and Apex. Maybe you typed "Otterly alternative" into a search box because the add-on maths on their pricing page didn't quite work for your budget. Maybe you're just doing proper due diligence before you put a tool in front of your boss or your clients.
Either way, you're comparing two tools that do the same job — watching what ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI results and the rest say about a brand — and you want a straight answer, not two marketing pages shouting past each other.
Why should you care which one you pick? Because this isn't a throwaway subscription. You'll build your prompt sets inside it, wire your monthly reporting to it, and teach your team (or your clients) to trust its numbers. Pick wrong and switching later means rebuilding all of that from scratch.
The right tool comes down to two questions: which AI engines do your buyers actually use, and who has to read the report every month?
Hold onto those two questions, because every real difference between these tools falls out of them. Engine coverage decides whether you're seeing the whole picture or a slice of it. The report reader decides whether you need white-label reports, client links and unlimited seats — or just a dashboard for yourself.
What both tools do
Otterly and Apex sit in the same category: AI visibility platforms. (You'll also hear "GEO tools", "AEO tools" and "AI search monitoring" — same category, different labels.) Otterly describes itself as an "AI Search Monitoring and Generative Engine Optimization platform". Apex calls itself an AI visibility platform. Strip the labels off and the job is the same.
Here's that job in plain English. You give the tool a set of prompts — the questions your buyers actually ask AI assistants, like "best accounting software for small construction firms". The tool runs those prompts across the AI engines on a schedule, records every answer, and turns the pile into numbers you can act on: how often you're mentioned, how often each competitor is mentioned, which sources the engines cite when they answer, and how all of it moves over time.
The headline metric in both tools is some version of share of voice in AI answers — your slice of the recommendations in your category. When ChatGPT names three vendors for what you sell and you're not one of them, that's the number that tells you — well before it shows up in your pipeline.
One scope note: this post is a straight head-to-head. If you want the whole category compared — eight tools, one honest table — read our roundup of the best AI visibility tools and come back here for the Otterly detail.
Apex vs Otterly at a glance
The short version first. All prices are USD per month, as of August 2026, and every Otterly figure links to its source.

If you skim one thing, skim that last column pair: Otterly is cheaper to enter and older; Apex includes more engines per dollar and builds the agency deliverables in. The rest of this post is those two facts, expanded honestly.
Where Otterly genuinely wins (and what Otterly AI reviews say)
Let's do this properly, because these are real advantages — not straw men we set up to knock down.
Track record and reviews
Otterly has been shipping since 2024, grew bootstrapped, and had its founder story covered by TechCrunch in December 2024. On G2 it holds 4.8 out of 5 from 54 reviews — 83% of them five-star, and not a single one-, two- or three-star review among them.
Apex cannot counter any of that, and we won't pretend to. We're pre-launch. We have zero reviews — good or bad — because nobody has had the product long enough to write one. If a public review history is on your must-have list, this section is your answer and you can stop reading here.
You can try it without talking to anyone
Otterly offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card. Sign up, poke around, leave quietly if it's not for you. Apex's free option is the free AI visibility evaluation — a real report on what the engines currently say about your brand — but full product access starts with a demo. If "I will not book a call to evaluate software" is a personal policy, Otterly respects it and we currently don't.
The cheapest way into the category
Otterly Lite is $29/month for 15 prompts — as of August 2026, the cheapest paid entry into AI visibility tracking we know of. Fifteen prompts won't cover a serious brand, but for a solo marketer who wants to watch a handful of high-intent questions and learn the category, it's hard to argue with the price.
Breadth extras Apex doesn't have
Otterly supports tracking across 50+ countries, tracks ChatGPT Ads, and offers an API plus an MCP server from the Standard tier up. If your work is heavily multi-market, or you want to pipe raw visibility data into your own stack, those are genuine, shipped capabilities — not roadmap slides.

Otterly AI pricing vs Apex: where Apex wins
Now our side of the ledger. Same rules: every number cited, everything dated August 2026.
Engines included vs engines as add-ons
Every Otterly paid plan includes four engines: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude are each sold separately, priced per tier — $9 to $149/month for Gemini or AI Mode, $29 to $439/month for Claude.
Apex Core is $149/month with five engines in the box — ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot — and 100 tracked prompts. To match that at Otterly you'd take Standard at $189/month (their 100-prompt tier) and add Gemini at $59/month: $248/month for the same prompt volume and engine breadth, as of August 2026. Remember the first of the two questions from the top — if your buyers live in Gemini and you're not tracking it, you're grading yourself on a partial exam.
The Claude maths
If you want Claude in the tracking mix, the gap widens. Apex Premium is $349/month: 300 prompts, daily refresh, and six engines including Claude, tracked via the official API. At Otterly, Claude requires the Premium plan at $489/month plus the Claude add-on at $439/month — $928/month all up, as of August 2026, for five engines (their four, plus Claude). To be fair both directions: that Otterly tier carries 400 prompts to Apex Premium's 300, and Otterly also offers Claude — it's an add-on, not an absence.
At $928 a month you could instead hire a part-time human to ask Claude about your brand a few hundred times and write the answers in a spreadsheet, and they would still have hours left over for light filing. We priced Apex Premium at $349 so nobody has to seriously consider this.
Built for the person who sends the report
The second question from the top: who reads the report? If the answer is "my clients", Apex's Agency plan ($399/month, three client workspaces, $99/month per extra) ships white-label PDF reports, shareable client links, scheduled sends and pitch workspaces for prospecting — the deliverable arrives finished, with your logo on it. Otterly's counter is real: its Agency Partner program offers custom Looker Studio reports with agency branding, plus boosted prompt counts. The difference is the shape of the work — Looker Studio is a dashboard you build and maintain; Apex hands you the finished PDF and the link.
On team size the two are level: every Apex plan has unlimited seats, and Otterly lists unlimited team members too. With both tools, prompts are the metered unit — adding your analyst, your account manager and your client's marketing lead costs nothing.
The gap in the middle
An honest note on pricing position, since we've been throwing stones: Apex is not the cheapest way into this category. Otterly Lite at $29 is, and we said so above. Apex starts at $149 — we've deliberately priced into the middle, because that's where Otterly's own reviewers point at a gap. One verified G2 review from June 2026 puts it plainly:
"The jump to €189/month for the Standard tier feels like a bit of a stretch for a small agency's software budget… the entry-level Lite tier doesn't provide enough capacity."
— Verified Otterly review, G2, 23 June 2026
Apex Core — $149, 100 prompts, five engines, unlimited seats — is built to sit exactly in that gap.
Our own limitation, stated plainly: Apex is the newest entrant in this comparison. We're pre-launch, at founding-customer stage — there is no third-party review history yet, and product access starts with a demo rather than a self-serve signup. Otterly has two years of shipping and 54 public reviews; we don't, yet. That's the honest trade you'd be making.
Who should pick which
Not "Apex for everyone". Here's the honest segmentation:
- Solo marketer testing the waters: Otterly Lite at $29/month. Fifteen prompts is enough to learn how AI visibility tracking works before you commit real budget. Apex doesn't have a plan at this price, and Core isn't built for that stage.
- You want to try before any conversation: Otterly's 14-day no-card trial. Apex's free option is the free visibility evaluation, and full access starts with a demo — if that's a dealbreaker, it's a dealbreaker.
- You need Claude plus daily refresh without enterprise pricing: Apex Premium at $349/month — six engines including Claude, 300 prompts, daily. The comparable Otterly stack is $928/month as of August 2026.
- Agency that sends branded deliverables: Apex Agency at $399/month — white-label PDFs, client links, pitch workspaces, unlimited seats. The counter-option is Otterly's partner program with agency-branded Looker Studio reports, if your team prefers building dashboards to sending PDFs.
- You want a long third-party review history: Otterly, full stop. 4.8/5 from 54 G2 reviews against Apex's zero — we're pre-launch and simply don't have one yet.
So, the recommendation, concretely. Pick Otterly if you want a $29 way in, a no-card trial, or a vendor with a public track record. Book an Apex demo if you want five engines included at $149, Claude and daily refresh at $349, or white-label client reporting at $399. Still unsure? Run the free evaluation — it costs nothing and shows you what the engines say about you today, which is the fact both tools exist to change.
